Engineer and geographer, Stéphane Roche is the Director of Research and Academic Affairs at Institut National de la Recherche Scientific - INRS. He was previously a Professor of Geomatics Sciences and, Vice-Dean Research at the Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics at Laval University, Quebec, where he taught GIS and spatial analysis at all three cycles, as well as Graduate seminars on the Geographical Information Society and the quality of geospatial data. His research focuses on the role of social geolocation, open data and crowdsourcing in bringing the concept of smart city and territory into operation. He is also interested in Spatial Skills and spatial reasoning as the main source of a new form of urban intelligence.
