As Principal Security Architect at the Bank of Canada, Zalina Gappoeva provides technical leadership to the IT Security Solution Architecture team, promoting new and innovative technologies to proactively monitor and address evolving security threats. Since joining the Bank of Canada in 2011, she has contributed to the success of numerous projects in a variety of different business lines and architectural domains, including Microsoft, SAP and data management technologies. Her commitment to innovation and collaboration in these areas has been recognized through several nominations for the Bank of Canada’s Awards of Excellence program.

A native of Russia, Zalina graduated from Moscow Engineering Physics State University with a focus on plasma physics. She then worked in a research capacity at the Russian Academy of Sciences, where she discovered computer programming. Zalina has since worked in information technology and has more than 20 years of software development experience in designing, building and supporting complex solutions on different platforms.

After moving to Canada in 2000, Zalina joined 3M Company, where she held various architect, data management and application roles, particularly in the area of biometric identity authentication and verification hardware and software, including the 3M Identity Document Issuance System portfolio and Border Management systems.
