Senior Investigator

Kristiann Allen has recently returned to academe as senior investigator at the Centre for Science in Policy, Diplomacy and Society (SciPoDS) at the University or Auckland. From 2013-2018 she served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of New Zealand. Following this, she spent an interchange year in Ottawa and worked as a senior advisor in the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada and with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research on key issues in science and research policy.  Her professional experience has spanned multiple levels at the nexus of the academe, government and civil society;  She has established professional development opportunities for knowledge brokers for academics as well as citizen-science programs; advised on research system architecture to national governments and facilitated the use of evidence at national and multi-lateral levels. She is an inaugural executive member of the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA), currently serving as Secretary.  With her river scientist husband and young family, Kristiann divides her time between Auckland and Ottawa.
