Managing Director, Social Innovation Lab
Kevin is the Managing Director, Social Innovation Lab at Algonquian College, in Ottawa, Canada. He is passionate about community and leveraging the significant public trust held within our post-secondary institutions towards the greater public good. Established in the summer of 2018, the Social Innovation Lab has a mission of empowering our community by sharing student creativity and technological knowledge to drive social change. The foundation of the work of the Lab revolves around the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Kevin also oversees health technology related applied research activities in the Office of Applied Research and Innovation at Algonquin College.

He is a medical device specialist with a background in Electro-Mechanical Design Engineering. After a brief stint in the high-tech field, he joined the University of Ottawa’s Artificial Heart Research Laboratory. He served at the Director level in the lab’s first start-up venture (World Heart Corporation) which was listed on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and NASDAQ in 1996. WorldHeart grew rapidly to include facilities in Canada, US and EU and provided lifesaving technology to patients around the globe. In 2005, he returned full time to the University with a focus on promotion of an enhanced medical devices sector for Canada and development of
related educational programs. This work led to the establishment of the Medical Devices Innovation Institute (MDI 2 ) at the University of Ottawa in 2009 where he served as the senior staff member focused on national policy initiatives until he joined Algonquin College in 2012.
