Simon Fraser University
Vice-President, Research and International, Professor of Health Sciences
Burnaby, British Columbia
I lead Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) strategic research initiatives and facilitate international opportunities that foster research collaborations and student exchange. My work focuses on facilitating research excellence and helping the university respond to new opportunities. I support members of SFU’s eight faculties to ensure they have the resources required to conduct excellent cutting-edge research in all its forms. Building on my research experience, I work with faculty, students and staff to secure research partnerships within the community and industry.

A key element of my role focusses on knowledge mobilization by facilitating opportunities to transfer the results of SFU research to society. This collaborative role allows for an interplay between research and innovation to enhance social, economic and environmental well-being.

I lead SFU Innovates—a university-wide strategy to inspire, develop and support impact-driven innovation and entrepreneurship. As part of SFU’s commitment to innovation, I am responsible for developing initiatives that support students and faculty members to harness new ideas and innovations for the benefit of society. I also played a significant role in the development, launch and execution of SFU’s Big Data Initiative, engaging people in advanced computing for innovation in teaching, research and community impact. I am a champion of equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives at SFU.
